At Great Sampford we teach a curriculum that is firmly based on the National Curriculum for England (2013) and associated programmes of study, as proposed by the Government of the day. We teach 12 discrete subjects in all: English, Maths, Science, Art and Design, Computing, Design and Technology, Geography, History, Languages (Spanish), Music, Physical Education and Religious Education. We also teach Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural education (SMSC) as both a discrete and integrated subject.
Underpinning our work throughout the school is the desire to enable our children to become independent learners. To this end we actively promote the growth mindset concept developed by psychologist Carol Dweck and popularised in her book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success.
Because we are a small school, with split aged classes, we follow a two year rolling programme in both Key Stage 1and 2. This means that every aspect of the curriculum is covered during the course of a child's time with us.
We also offer an extended curriculum to the children through the delivery of Forest Schools in EYFS and Years 5 and 6 and the specific teaching of horticulture skills in Years 1 and 2.

We have a purposeful kitchen for the children to use, kindly funded by the PTA.
We use the skills of cookery to enrich our curriculum. This is a diagram to explain how we link our activities. This is just a 'flavour' of the activities and skills.
