About this site

This page provides general information about using our site. More specific help (e.g. useful keystrokes) can be found in our accessibility pages.

Browser compatibility

Our site has been designed to work best with the browser fully maximised at a screen resolution of 800x600 (or higher) and thousands of colours. It will work with less colours but photographs and other pictures won't look as good.

This site has been designed to render best in modern, standards compliant browsers such as Safari, Firefox, Opera and Internet Explorer 6.0 and above. It should be usable in earlier browsers but it won't look as nice, and it will probably not be usable in very early browsers (such as IE 4 and Netscape 4). If you are using an earlier version of Internet Explorer or Netscape we throughly recommend that you upgrade to Safari, Firefox, Opera or IE 7.

In addition to visual browsers we've tested the site in JAWS. Please see our screen reader accessibility page for more information.

Given the size of this site it is always possible that gremlins are lurking in the HTML that cause rendering problems or other issues. If you come across any problems or faults that affect the display or rendering of the pages please let us know so we can keep the quality of the site to the high standard to which we aspire.

Plug-in software

In some places on the site we've used the Adobe Acrobat Reader to display documents. Also, the games in The Playground need Adobe's Flash player.

History

This site first went live in September 2000, although its inception can be traced back to the previous year when Ian Pollard, who had recently joined the school as head teacher, first met Graeme Whippy, an IT project manager and parent at the school. Wishing to break the ice at a parents' consultation evening, Graeme asked Ian if he was interested in setting up a school web site. Ian's enthusiasm for the project was immediate, and was matched by Graeme's passion and flair for web design. With the help of Graeme's wife Rachel and two other parents - Cheryl Lawrance and Matt Domin - the site was designed, developed and launched over a period of about 9 months.

Today the site is maintained by the school and a small number of highly dedicated parents who are always on the look-out for additional help. If you are interested in joining the team or contributing to the site please contact us.
