Swift Class Autumn 1 Topic and Homework Map
Our topic this term in science is animals including humans and Miss Mitchell led a fantastic lesson this week where the children had to draw around each other and then place and label the bones correctly. The classroom is now covered with extra bodies!
My favourite moment was seeing the labels 'ear' and 'other ear' on one of the bodies.
Our first day back
What a fantastic first day in Swift we have had. After a morning of admin and getting to know each other we explored all the Egyptian resources, built pyramids and ended the day with salt dough amulets that we are hoping to finish tomorrow.
Bring on the rest of the year!
Learning Our Spellings - Stone Age Style!
Today we were counting in fractions. We had to write, draw and order the fractions on a number line. We even worked out which fractions were equal to whole numbers.
We had a great time with Dr Laing this afternoon. We learnt about what an engineer does and then we created our own cars to crash test. We had to think carefully about where to store our egg and how to keep it safe.
We have been learning about perimeter in maths. We had to carefully measure the outside of the shapes and then add the numbers together. Some of us even converted our measurements into metres or millimetres.
Well done to the Athletics Team!
Swift Class have been investigating magnets as part of our forces topic. We investigated what types of materials are magnetic, the strength of different magnets and much more. It was so much fun!
We had a great time designing, making and playing our own times table games.
Swift class had a great time at the dodgeball tournament. They worked together superbly and we came first in one tournament and second in the other. Well done everyone!
Egypt Day was fantastic. The children learnt loads of facts about Ancient Egypt, measured like the Egyptians and took part in a mummification ceremony. Everyone behaved exceptionally and we even crowned our new Pharaoh!
Mrs Day visited us to teach us all about our muscles. We had a great time looking at the models and trying different exercises to see which muscles we were using.
Swift class made their own cartouches out of clay this afternoon. They had to roll out their clay, cut out their shape and engrave their name in hieroglyphics. They look fantastic!
The children created their own instruments as part of their homework. We learnt about how instruments make sound and how it travels to our ears. Then, we create our own music piece.
Our trip to Kentwell hall was amazing. The children behaved incredibly and had a fantastic time experiencing life as a Tudor.
As part of our science topic, we have been learning about the different parts of the flower. We we have learnt why each part is so important and dissected a flower to see if we could find them all.
Thank you for coming to our assembly last week. The children loved sharing their work.
Our visit to Duxford Air Museum
We had a great time at the Air Museum yesterday. We learnt lots about how planes work and the similarities and differences between old and new planes. We went on Concorde and even saw a spitfire doing tricks in the air. It was a fantastic day.
A Pilot came to our School!
Our Viking Day was great. The children really enjoyed the making shields, decoding runes and drumming. What a great way to end our topic!
We have been learning how to be a scientist. We have learnt about conducting a fair test and making predictions and soon we will look at writing up our experiments.
Swift class had an amazing time at our dodgeball tournament. We didn’t win but we tried our best and had loads of fun. Rocco even got to demonstrate infront of all 5 schools. Well done everyone!
Swift Class really enjoyed sharing their work at the class assembly. They have loved learning about the Stone Age and Iron Age this half term. We hope you enjoyed it too!
